Background
Walker Central Football Club was formed in 1988 by Brian Clark (at the time a scout for Newcastle United), Lee Clark (currently assistant to Glen Roeder at Norwich City). Eddie Hammil and Brian Simpson (ex Head Teacher at St Vincent’s R.C.) to provide football for the children in the East End of Newcastle.
Currently
The most recent season has been the most successful for our senior side, which won both the Northern Alliance Premier Division and the League Cup that ended in an invite to join the Northern League.
Further success was in the under 9’s section who also pulled off the double and for the first time in the history of Walker Central Football Club the girl’s under 12’s side brought home silverware in winning their respective league. A number of the other teams were in Cup Finals but unfortunately did not bring home any silverware in their respective age groups this season.
The club continues to operate Community Mini Soccer Camps every Saturday morning and we are actively looking for players of all age groups.
We are attracting children from as young as 4 years old to our Soccer Camps.
The club will have 20 teams competing next season.
The club continues its involvement within the Community and now has well-established links within local schools in the area providing football coaching and fitness as well as nutrition and healthy eating.
A special mention goes to our founder members, Lee Clark who has recently left the coaching staff at Newcastle United to join Norwich City as Glen Roeder’s first team coach, also Brian Clark who has one of the best records of any scout in the country for getting kids a job in football, Brian is arguably one of the most respected scouts in the country by players and managers in the game and a great servant to the community of Walker. A special mention to 2 other founders, firstly Eddie Hammil
who has given over 30 years of dedication to junior football and will be retiring from running teams and secondly Brian Simpson who is the ex Head Teacher of St Vincent’s R.C. School.
