Under 16's: Walker Under 15's in fantastic fightback
Mick Jeffels took the under 15's in what was to prove the ultimate of a game of two halves. In fact you could say it was a game of two teams both teams coming from Walker.
The first half was everything that was bad about junior football, players arguing amongst themselves, arguing with officials that included the referee and the Whitley bay linesman who by the way never got any big decisions wrong. The shambles that was to be the first half saw Walker deservedly go 3-0 and the game looked lost, players looked to pass on the blame to team mates and simply looked to blame anything or anyone for their poor show. A goal brought the deficit back to 3-1 but it was a relief to hear the half time whistle.
A very frank talk took place at half time and on a personal note Mick Jeffels said he had never been so embarrased with a team however it is very clear these lads can play football and have exceptional talent that could be seen in the first half. A change of formation and a directive to play simple football and concentrate on their own game plus to be heard to support their own team mates. What happened was so unbelievable that its clear these lads play quality football, from the captain at the back and his brother to the quality of defending, the midfield began to play excellent football and the wide men attacked the full backs, the strikers began showing and whilst "Goose" will get the headlines for a goal scoring exploit the team were unrecognisable so much so that they put 6 past Whitley to take a 6-3 lead. The last five minutes saw a little bit of the first half come into play and Whitley scored to make it 6-4 but only after the keeper had pulled off a world class save from a penalty. These lads can go far but lets hope they learn from both halfs of the game. Unbelievable comeback from a quality teram
